Coun. Tobi Nussbaum is optimistic there could be wiggle room in the 2017 budget to help social agencies and improve sustainable transportation infrastructure.
 

Nussbaum, who represents Rideau-Rockcliffe ward, points to the $8 million extra the city plans to receive next year and sees potential.

“That’s actually a good news story,” Nussbaum said after a council meeting Wednesday.

Council approved the 2017 budget directions to staff, reflecting the updated savings from last week’s layoffs and changes to the revenue projections.

Where the city was previously budgeting for an extra $12.5 million in revenue next year, management now believes $20 million more will flow into the coffers, largely thanks to an increased Hydro Ottawa dividend and provincial funding for additional paramedics. Read more >
